The West Kootenay EcoSociety protects the environment while building a just and sustainable post-carbon world. It initiated the West Arm Watershed Alliance and a Community Supported Grain Co-op with Creston farmers,, supports Jumbo Wild, operates the Kootenay Ride Share,and oversees the Wednesday and Saturday Farmer’s and Artisans Markets and Streetfests in Nelson, among other activities. Kootenay Local Agricultural Association is an organic farming certifying body. Periodically they offer courses in such areas as bee keeping, irrigating, pruning, and basic gardening skills. They have a lending tool library for members and their website has a wealth of information, references, and links of interest to farmers and gardeners.

SEEDS is a seniors group using one of the City of Nelson`s greenhouses to grow and promote local food. They are actively reaching out to involve local school children and others groups in this endeavor.
