Transition Nelson Expo and Gathering May 14-16
Transition Nelson is pleased to invite you to the Transition Expo and Gathering on May 14th, 15th, and 16th at the Prestige Lakeside Resort and Convention Centre.
The Expo and Gathering will celebrate the many efforts already underway to strengthen our local economy and build a resilient community. It will also recognize the critical need to build partnerships across issue areas in order to reach common goals and prepare for an uncertain future. This three-day event will be a springboard that brings new energy and unity to the broad effort to make Nelson more ecologically sound, economically sustainable, and socially equitable.
The Expo, from noon to late on Friday May 14th, is an opportunity to visit with many of the organizations already doing great work toward meeting our essential local and regional needs in a post-carbon world. It will include hands-on reskilling demonstrations and an evening of inspiration and musical celebration. There will also be a chance to experience the winning original art, music and literature from the Imagine Festival. Admission to the Expo is by a suggested donation of $5. The evening program will begin at 7pm, including an amazing line-up of inspirational speakers, followed by performances by Lazy Poker Blues Band and Adham Shaikh. Admission to the evening celebration will be $15-20 sliding scale (tickets on sale soon), including light snacks.
The Gathering on May 15th and 16th is a professionally facilitated self-organizing process that will lead to the formation of working groups and projects in all the key sectors of community. The focus here is on action. It is the place to mobilize your inspiration for a sustainable and resilient community, able to face the converging challenges of a world requiring local self-sufficiency. Transition Nelson invites all members of our community to be part of the solution and join in the co-creation of our future. The cost for this 2-day intensive workshop will be $75 (bursaries are available on request). Click here for a detailed description and agenda. Space is limited for this event, so click here to register early!

Subject: Join Us for Hardwick Area Tours!
Have you ever wondered about the farms and food businesses in the Hardwick area after reading an article, hearing a news blurb, or eating a delicious local treat? Well, now is your chance to learn more by exploring the region’s many farms and businesses.
Join an all day caravan tour organized by the Center for an Agricultural Economy (CAE) the 3rd Thursday of every month beginning in May and ending in October. Hear the stories, tour the facilities, and meet the people that make this area so rich in community-based agricultural enterprises as well as the subject of countless news articles and most recently, a book.
Beginning at the offices of CAE at 10am, Tom Stearns, president of the CAE Board, will lead a group of up to 25 people, caravan-style, to several different farms and businesses in Hardwick, Craftsbury, Albany, Greensboro and East Hardwick. The tours will be informative, fast-paced, fascinating and a fun way to experience the area. The tours cost $50 per person and are free to children 10 years and younger, accompanied by an adult.
Details and a registration form can be found on the CAE website http://www.hardwickagriculture.org/outreach.html. The tour dates are as follows:
May 20, June 17, July 15, August 19, September 16 and October 21
