What can we create together?

The Transition Gathering May 15-16, Prestige Lakeside Resort and Conference Centre.

In a world where climate change and peak oil are becoming daily realities, inspiration and ideas are the first steps to adaptation. We then need to develop and implement real-world projects that make our community more resilient, more equitable, and more sustainable.  The Gathering shifts the theme of transition from outreach and education to action.

At Transition Nelson, we recognize that the people of our community hold the keys to a sustainable future. The Gathering aims to gather passionate, creative, and optimistic people to discover what we can create together. Whether your passion is youth empowerment, spiritual health, wilderness protection, social equity, or something else, you’ll find a place at the Gathering. Transition Nelson will bring world-renowned facilitator Chris Corrigan to the Prestige Conference Centre on May 15 and 16 for an intensive workshop aimed at developing working groups and implementing real-world projects that benefit our community. The process will also focus on finding common ground among different interests and initiatives to find places where we can do more good with fewer resources.

The weekend workshop will kick off with an opening question and discussion. Then, the group will develop key topics for discussion and break into small groups to establish working groups and brainstorm project ideas. By the end of Saturday, you will have collaborated with new and old friends to create several ideas for moving Nelson toward a vision of resilience and sustainability. On Sunday, we will form ongoing working groups around these ideas, and some groups will develop plans for implementation. We invite you to bring your idea or your passion project to the table to gather energy toward realization!

The registration fee of $75 will help defray costs of renting the space and facilitation. Bursaries are available on request. Click here to register or request a bursary.

  1. Hi Nadia – To answer your question, there will be some speaking from Chris and Transition Nelson on Saturday morning, but we don’t want to bring people in to talk to the community for this event – we wanted to create a forum where community members can talk to each other. We considered asking Chris to do a workshop, but it was more than we could manage in combination with all the other components of the weekend. If there is a lot of demand, we may schedule another visit from Chris or another open space facilitator specifically to train folks on using open space technology.

Thanks for your interest – I hope to see you at the Gathering. David

  2. I’m also happy to meet with anyone during the Open Space who has questions about Open Space facilitation. And if you are looking for resources, there are lots on my website at http://www.chriscorrigan.com.
