Participants Meeting Rescheduled- Now March 30th

Our next Transition Nelson Participants Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 30th, 7 – 9 pm, at the Senior’s Centre (717 Vernon St.) in Nelson.

Our focus for this meeting will be to direct assist the organizers of the Transition Expo and Gathering hosted by Transition Nelson at the Prestige (May 14-16th).  There are many parts to the Expo and Gathering which are outlined here:

May 14th daytime – Dedicated to an EXPO of all the groups in Nelson and area currently working on projects related to some aspect of “transitioning”.  There is already a vast stream of movement in this area in Nelson, and we would like to acknowledge the work these groups are doing, and let them have a chance to showcase their ongoing work.  This EXPO will also include some practical, re-skilling workshops.

May 14th evening – A celebration of our Transition Nelson journey.  This will be when we officially declare Nelson to be “In Transition”.  This celebration will feature a Samba parade from Main street to the Prestige, winning performances from the “Imagine Transition” competitions, Art displays, speeches, a live band, and a dance.

May 15thand 16th daytime – This will be a broad community CONVERSATION where a trained facilitator for Transition Nelson will be employing the use of Open Space Technology (OST) to guide participants through a self-organizing process of problem-solving.  This part of the weekend is where we put our heads together collectively and roll up our sleeves to get to work.

As you can imagine, this large event will take many volunteers to co-ordinate. Much of the ground work has been done, but we require more hands in each area.  At the Participants Meeting, there will be members from the Transition Expo and Gathering project group present to explain where help is most required.

Please attend the Participants Meeting to find out in which way you can directly assist in the transition movement.  Feel free to pass this information on to anyone you think would be interested in joining us.  Together, we can work towards real change in our community!
